Shaadi Wala Ghar

The house before everyone arrives

Shaadi Wala Ghar — Shaadi Wala Ghar Sufi night by Sage & Saaj
The design story

A home preparing for music, prayer and everyone it loves.

Shaadi Wala Ghar began with the feeling of a home getting ready for a wedding: music, prayer and the people it loves. For Karma and Shaurya’s Sufi evening in Delhi, the house wasn’t treated as a venue to disguise. Its familiarity became the main material.

Strands of marigold, glowing cut-glass candle holders and red and gold textiles moved through the entrance, the staircase, the courtyard and the garden. The decoration felt gathered over time rather than installed, so family spaces and celebration spaces overlapped naturally.

The result held the anticipation of a wedding house: intimate, a little abundant, and alive with the sense that something is about to begin.

A wedding house should still feel like home.

Design notes

A residential celebration built from marigold, candlelight and rich textiles rather than a single stage-led installation.

The setting

The evening moved through the family’s own house in Delhi, from the front entrance and stairs to the courtyard and back garden. Each space kept its everyday purpose and gained a layer of celebration.

Three design decisions
  1. 01

    A curtain of marigolds

Long strands of marigold hung across the entrance and pergolas, so guests walked through flowers to reach the music.

  2. 02

    Candlelight at floor level

Clusters of candles in cut-glass holders, set on low mirrored platforms, lined the steps and the deck.

  3. 03

Red and gold for the mehfil

Under the pergola, crystal chandeliers, red drapes and low seating in red and pink brocade made a setting for the performance.

Look closer
  • A spiral staircase dressed in marigolds
  • Brass vessels with dried grasses and red blooms
  • A carved wooden bar backed in red
  • Low lounges around candle-lined tables
